Want to write a book review?
Green Book Reviews features environmentally themed books from around the world, and occasionally notable environmental films and websites. We are constantly looking to expand our roster of talented contributors and engaging content.
If there’s a book you would like to review, we would love to hear about it!
Simply send us an email and include the following:
- The publication you would like to review
- Why you think the book is important and how it will appeal to our readers
- A brief description of your background and how it relates to the book
- Recent writing samples
How to write a Great Green Book Review:
Content
If your submission is selected, ensure that your review addresses these questions: What is this book about? Who should read it? What will they learn? Is the argument strong? Is the information accurate? Will this book impact environmental discussion and practice?
Do not provide a chapter-by-chapter description, but rather capture the themes of the book and why it’s useful/interesting. We consider reviews that bring a critical eye to the book. Reviews submitted should be approx. 500 words in length.
Style
We strive to present material in a lively tone that will stir a reader’s interest. Avoid bullet point lists and explain technical terms on first use.
Presentation
Put the book information at the top of the review, including:
Title, Author, City: Publisher, Year.
Provide a one-sentence biography of yourself at the end of the review, with your name and title. For films, list the producer, distributor (with address) and length.
Our Process
Reviews may be edited for length, style and clarity. Submitted reviews will also be considered for publication in Alternatives Journal, our associated print magazine. The majority of our reviews are on recent titles released within the last two years, although we will consider a classic book, relevant to today’s environmental issues.
